Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts to make it with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels before being was later dropped from them prior to any recordings had been released. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted modest attention for its cheerfully playful title track. Perry became a bigger star a few months later, with the track I Kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual curiosity backed by a hard-edged electro-pop beat. The song quickly stirred debate as some critics accused it for promoting same-sex relations as well as others argued that the sexually explicit scene that it depicted was a sly way to appeal to male fantasies of sexuality in females. I Kissed a Girl's combination of excitement, a polished tune and an enthralling chorus made to make it a top ten song across multiple countries. The result was the album The One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the song that was its second biggest hit became a huge hit. The album which Perry created by herself sold more than three million copies.
